There are places you visit, and places you quietly begin to belong to. Pine & Crane feels like the latter.  Maybe it’s the natural light pouring through the room, or the way the open-air feeling softens the boundary between the restaurant and the neighborhood outside. Maybe it’s the familiar faces behind the counter who remember you when you return. Plus there’s always something that invites you to stay a little longer—a pot of tea, a cold beer, a thoughtfully made cocktail.  Whatever it is, Pine & Crane has the warmth of a neighborhood gathering place—easy, welcoming, and alive without trying too hard to be any of those things.

The food carries that same feeling. Taiwanese dishes are thoughtful and comforting, familiar enough to settle into but distinct enough to keep you curious. Beef rolls, noodles, vegetables, small plates—there is a generosity to the menu that makes ordering for the table feel like part of the experience. And in a part of Downtown where there really isn't much else quite like it, Pine & Crane gives you a reason to keep coming back and discovering something you somehow missed the last time.

But what stays with us isn't any single dish.

It's the feeling of returning to a place that recognizes you.

Why It's On Our Soulful List

Pine & Crane has become one of our favorite places in Los Angeles—not simply because we love eating there, but because we love being there.
